It was an infortunate and embarrasing moment for poker. Scotty was in clear violation of several rules that have been put in place by the WSOP board to stop exactly what happened at that table. Why he was not taken to the side, and warned about his behavior is a complete mystery to me. I know that the footage wasn't edited to only show his worst behavior, and it would not have been possible to edit out all of the offensive actions that he took during that shoot. Unfortunatly, it was just an accurate portrait of how he acted.
There are many people that have made excuses for his actions. From the fact that he was under a lot of self-imposed pressure to preform well after last year's blow-up in the main event, to the fact that the final table went for about 13 hours and Scotty does drink while he plays. And for a 13 hour table, even the best drinkers would have a hard time pacing themselves correctly. All those things taken into consideration, along with Scotty's true, genuine remorse for the way he acted, leads me to only one conclusion: Scotty is responsible for his actions, and should feel sorry for the way he acted. However, the TD should have at least ONCE taken him to the side and pointed out how he was acting, told him to STOP drinking, and given him, and probably the whole table a warning about the way they were acting. Granted, Scotty and Michael were the worst of the bunch, but by the time they were down to 3 handed, every one of the player's were guilty of at least a couple violations of the rules.
The rules are in place to keep the integrity of the game, event, and the entire WSOP in tact. To maintain a consistant code of conduct for ALL players, no matter of their status in the poker world. It is unfortunate, that when an opportunity to show the world that no player would be treated any better just because they bring ratings to television, they fell drastically short of doing the right thing.
